Indications:
Cattle and buffaloes: induction of oestrus (also in animals with weak or silent heats); synchronisation of oestrus; termination of pregnancy; expulsion of mummified foetus; induction of parturition; post-partum metropathies (delayed uterine involution; expulsion of placenta; endometritis, especially pyometra); ovarian dysfunctions (luteal cysts, persistent corpus luteum; anovulatory cycle, post-partum anoestrus, silent heats; repeat breeders, irregular oestrous cycles; follicular cysts).
Sows: induction of parturition.
Mares: induction of oestrus; breeding planning; induction of parturition; foetal death; ovarian dysfunctions (interruption of persistent dioestrus; interruption of pseudopregnancy state).
Dosage:
ESTROTEK should be administered intramuscularly at a dose of 1-3 ml in the cow and in the buffalo equivalent to 250-750 µg of cloprostenol/animal, 1 ml in the mare equivalent to 250 µg of cloprostenol/animal (2 ml in mares weighing over 600 kg equivalent to 500 µg of cloprostenol/animal, 0.5 ml in ponies equivalent to 125 µg of cloprostenol/animal) and 0.7 ml in the sow equivalent to 175 µg of cloprostenol/animal.
In the cow, buffalo and sow, ESTROTEK can also be administered by vaginal submucosal route preferably on the side of the corpus luteum at a dose of 0.5-1 ml in cows and buffaloes equivalent to 125-250 µg of cloprostenol/animal and 0.35 ml in sows equivalent to 87.5 µg of cloprostenol/animal.
In particular conditions, the dosage of ESTROTEK may be increased at the veterinarian’s discretion.
Cattle and buffaloes:
- Induction of oestrus (also in animals with weak or silent heats): after establishing the presence of the corpus luteum, administer ESTROTEK at a dose of 2 ml.
Heat generally appears within 48-60 hours.
Then proceed with insemination 72-96 hours after inoculation.
If oestrus does not appear, administration of the product must be repeated 11 days after the first inoculation. - Synchronisation of oestrus: administer 2 ml of ESTROTEK twice consecutively with an interval of 11 days between administrations.
Then proceed with 2 artificial inseminations performed at 72 and 96 hours after the second injection. - Termination of pregnancy: 2-3 ml of ESTROTEK in the first half of pregnancy.
- Expulsion of mummified foetus: 2-3 ml of ESTROTEK; expulsion of the foetus generally occurs within 3-4 days.
- Induction of parturition: administer 2 ml of ESTROTEK after the 270th day of pregnancy.
Parturition generally occurs within 30-60 hours after treatment. - Post-partum metropathies: delayed uterine involution: administer 2 ml of ESTROTEK and, if deemed appropriate, repeat one or two subsequent treatments of 1 ml at 24-hour intervals; expulsion of placenta: administer 1 ml of ESTROTEK every 24 hours for 5 consecutive days; endometritis, particularly pyometra (accompanied by the presence of a corpus luteum): administer 2 ml of ESTROTEK; if deemed appropriate, carry out intrauterine antibiotic treatments 1-3 days after the injection.
If necessary, repeat the 2 ml dose after 11 days and inseminate 72-96 hours after inoculation.
If the mucus is still cloudy, repeat the intrauterine antibiotic treatment. - Ovarian dysfunctions:
- luteal cysts, persistent corpus luteum: administer 2 ml of ESTROTEK and inseminate at the first oestrus after inoculation.
Administration of GnRH, 3 days after treatment with ESTROTEK, improves the ovulation rate;
- anovulatory cycle, post-partum anoestrus, silent heats: once the presence of the corpus luteum has been ascertained, administer ESTROTEK and then proceed with insemination at the first oestrus after inoculation.
If oestrus does not appear, carry out a new gynaecological examination, then repeat the injection 11 days after the first administration.
Insemination must always be performed 72-96 hours after inoculation;
- repeat breeders, irregular oestrous cycles: once the presence of the corpus luteum has been ascertained, administer 2 ml of ESTROTEK; if deemed appropriate, proceed with intrauterine antibiotic treatment and repeat a second inoculation of ESTROTEK 11 days after the first.
Insemination must be performed 72-96 hours after inoculation;
- follicular cysts: combined therapy can be carried out by administering GnRH (or HCG) and 10-14 days later, inoculate 2 ml of ESTROTEK.
This combined therapy is also very useful when the differential diagnosis between follicular cyst and luteal cyst is uncertain.
Sows:
- Induction of parturition: administer 0.7 ml of ESTROTEK intramuscularly from the 112th day of pregnancy onwards. The highest concentration of farrowings is obtained in the interval between 24 and 35 hours after inoculation.
Mares:
- Induction of oestrus: administer 1 ml of ESTROTEK once the presence of the corpus luteum has been ascertained.
Breed preferably from the 4th to the 6th day after inoculation. - Breeding planning: administer 1 ml of ESTROTEK twice, 14 days apart.
Then proceed with insemination on the 19th and 21st day after the first inoculation even in the absence of external signs. - Induction of parturition: ESTROTEK should be administered at a dose of 1 ml starting from the 320th day of pregnancy. Parturition generally occurs after a few hours.
- Foetal death: administer 1 ml of ESTROTEK, preferably after confirming the presence of the corpus luteum (progesterone assay).
- Ovarian dysfunctions:
- interruption of persistent dioestrus: administer 1 ml of ESTROTEK to induce the onset of heat, which occurs after 2-8 days.
Ovulation generally occurs within 8-10 days after the intervention;
- interruption of pseudopregnancy state: administer 1 ml of ESTROTEK to restore normal ovarian activity;
- lactational anoestrus: administration of 1 ml of ESTROTEK 20-22 days after parturition, after confirming cyclic activity, induces oestrus and ovulation.
