Indications:

CATTLE IVOMEC injectable solution is indicated for the treatment and control of the following species of gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms, other nematodes, external parasites, blood-sucking lice and mange mites of cattle: Gastrointestinal nematodes (adults and 4th-stage larvae) Ostertagia ostertagi (including inhibited larvae), O. lyrata, Haemonchus placei, Trichostrongylus axei, T. colubriformis, Cooperia oncophora, C. punctata, C. pectinata, Cooperia spp., Oesophagostomum radiatum, Bunostomum phlebotomum, Nematodirus helvetianus (adults), N. spathiger (adults), Strongyloides papillosus (adults), Toxocara (Neoascaris) vitulorum (adults) Lungworms (adults and 4th-stage larvae) Dictyocaulus viviparus (including inhibited larvae) IVOMEC injectable solution, administered at the recommended dose of 1 ml per 50 kg body weight, controls reinfestations due to Haemonchus placei and Cooperia spp. occurring within the first 14 days after treatment, due to Ostertagia ostertagi and Oesophagostomum radiatum occurring within the first 21 days after treatment, and due to Dictyocaulus viviparus occurring within the first 28 days after treatment. Other nematodes Parafilaria bovicola, Thelazia spp. (adults) External parasites Larval stages of Hypoderma bovis and H. lineatum IVOMEC is highly effective against all larval stages of bovine warble fly. However, appropriate timing of treatment is important. To obtain maximum efficacy, cattle should be treated immediately after the summer season (i.e. when the insects have lost their vitality). Destruction of Hypoderma larvae during the period when they are located in vital areas may cause undesirable host–parasite reactions. Killing Hypoderma lineatum when it is in the oesophageal tissues may cause bloat; killing Hypoderma bovis when it is in the spinal canal may cause staggering or paralysis. Such reactions are not specifically due to treatment with IVOMEC, but may occur with any treatment capable of destroying the larvae. Cattle should be treated before or after these stages of parasite development. Cattle treated with IVOMEC immediately after the summer season may be treated again with ivermectin during winter for endoparasites, mange mites and lice, without any risk of undesirable reactions due to Hypoderma larvae. Lice Linognathus vituli, Haematopinus eurysternus, Solenopotes capillatus, as an aid in controlling chewing lice of the species Damalinia bovis. Mites Psoroptes ovis (syn. P. communis var. bovis), Sarcoptes scabiei var. bovis, as an aid in controlling Chorioptes bovis. PIGS IVOMEC injectable solution is also indicated for the treatment and control of the following parasites of pigs: Gastrointestinal nematodes (adults and 4th-stage larvae) Ascaris suum, Hyostrongylus rubidus, Oesophagostomum spp., Strongyloides ransomi (adults), as an aid in controlling blood-sucking nematodes of the species Trichuris suis (adults). IVOMEC administered to sows 7–14 days before farrowing effectively controls transmammary transmission to piglets of Strongyloides ransomi infestations. Lungworms (adults) Metastrongylus spp. Lice Haematopinus suis In cases of pediculosis it may be necessary to retreat animals, since parasite eggs require at least 3 weeks to hatch. Mites Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis Since the effect of ivermectin on mites is not immediate, pigs should not be moved to parasite-free premises or exposed to contact with healthy animals for at least one week after completion of treatment.

Dosage:

CATTLE Injectable IVOMEC must be administered only by the subcutaneous route at the recommended dosage of 200 mcg ivermectin per kilogram of body weight, corresponding to 1 ml of solution per 50 kg of body weight. Subcutaneous injection of IVOMEC should be given cranial or caudal to the shoulder. Use of a sterile 16-gauge needle, 15 to 20 mm in length, is recommended. PIGS The recommended dosage is 300 mcg ivermectin per kilogram of body weight, corresponding to 1 ml of solution per 33 kg of body weight. The recommended route of administration is subcutaneous in the dorso-lateral part of the neck. The solution may be administered with any standard automatic or single-dose equipment, observing normal aseptic conditions.
